 BEST - OCTOBER TO MARCH

Cool and comfortable across all destinations. The Ganga at Haridwar and Rishikesh is at its most beautiful in winter. Book early for December–January.

PLAN AHEAD - HOLI, MATHURA & VRINDAVAN

Holi here is spectacular but extremely crowded. If you want to experience it, book months in advance. If you prefer calmer darshan, avoid the two weeks around Holi.

WORTH KNOWING - KUMBH MELA, HARIDWAR

When Kumbh falls in Haridwar, the city transforms entirely. We can plan a Kumbh-specific visit - but it requires careful advance booking and different logistics.

MONSOON - JULY TO SEPTEMBER

The Ganga runs high and fast during monsoon - Haridwar and Rishikesh ghats have restrictions. This period is better avoided for this particular route.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Har Ki Pauri ghat, Haridwar - the most sacred bathing ghat on the Ganga, where the river first touches the plains
  • Evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri - fire and river in the Himalayan foothills

  • Triveni Ghat Rishikesh - morning aarti at the confluence point
  • Ashrams and temples lining the Rishikesh riverbank
  • Krishna Janmabhoomi - the exact birthplace of Lord Krishna, Mathura
  • Dwarkadhish Temple and important Mathura shrines
  • Banke Bihari Temple, Vrindavan - the most beloved Krishna temple, with its unique curtain tradition
  • ISKCON Vrindavan, Prem Mandir, Radha Raman and Vrindavan temples

Travel Itinerary

Morning drive → Har Ki Pauri → Main ghats → Ganga Aarti at dusk

Drive from New Delhi to Haridwar - about five hours.
Arrive and walk to Har Ki Pauri where the Ganga steps down to the plains for the first time. Visit the main ghats.
In the evening, stay for the Ganga Aarti - fire reflected in the water, the Shivalik hills behind, the river just come down from the mountains. Overnight in Haridwar.

TTI Insider: At Har Ki Pauri, on the upper level of the ghat, there is a small shrine marking Lord Vishnu's footprint - most visitors walk right past it focused on the main bathing steps below. Ask your TTI rep to show you before the aarti crowd arrives. It takes two minutes and very few people know it is there.

24 km to Rishikesh → Laxman Jhula → Ram Jhula → Triveni Ghat → Ashrams → Return to Haridwar

Drive to Rishikesh - 24 km, a different world.
Cross Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula, visit Triveni Ghat and the ashrams and temples on both banks. The Ganga here is clear, fast-moving and cold. This is where India has been meditating for centuries. Return to Haridwar for the night.

TTI Insider: Laxman Jhula at sunrise - before the day visitors arrive - is one of the most peaceful experiences in all of Uttarakhand. The bridge sways slightly, the river runs fast below, and there is almost nobody there. If your group is willing to start early on Day 2, this one hour makes the whole day different. We always recommend it.

Long Drive South Through The Plains → Arrive Mathura By Evening → Rest

An honest day on the road - seven to eight hours by private car through the Uttar Pradesh plains. The landscape shifts from mountain-green to the dust-gold of the Brij region.

Arrive Mathura by evening. Temples begin tomorrow - tonight is for rest. Overnight in Mathura.

TTI Insider: This drive passes through Garh Mukteshwar - an ancient Ganga ghat town many devotees consider sacred. If your group wants a brief stop to touch the Ganga one more time before leaving the river behind, TTI can include 30 minutes here without significantly affecting arrival time. Just mention it at booking.

Krishna Janmabhoomi → Dwarkadhish → Banke Bihari → ISKCON → Prem Mandir → Radha Raman

Begin in Mathura - Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish Temple and the other important shrines.
Then drive 12 km to Vrindavan for the full afternoon. Every temple here tells a different story from Krishna's childhood. Banke Bihari, ISKCON, Prem Mandir, Radha Raman. The bells never stop. Return to Mathura for the night.

TTI Insider: At Banke Bihari the priests close the curtain briefly before the deity — a tradition unique to this temple. When it opens, even for a moment, watch what happens in the hall. The collective reaction of devotees at that instant is something we have seen hundreds of times and it still moves us every time. Do not be looking at your phone when the curtain opens.

After breakfast → Drive back to Delhi → Tour ends

After breakfast, drive back to Delhi - about three hours on the Yamuna Expressway. Tour ends on arrival in Delhi.

TTI drops you at your hotel, airport or home address. A quiet three-hour drive is the right amount of time to let the last four days settle.

TTI Insider: Many of our clients ask about Govardhan Hill - 26 km from Mathura - on the morning of Day 5. The parikrama of Govardhan is deeply significant in Krishna tradition and takes about 2–3 hours if done by walking. If this matters to your family, tell us at booking and we will adjust the Day 5 schedule to include it before the Delhi drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — the main bathing area at Har Ki Pauri has steps directly into the river and strong iron handrails. The current is managed at the ghat. TTI recommends bathing in the morning rather than at aarti time when the steps are most crowded. Elderly or less mobile members of the family can receive the Ganga water from the steps without fully entering.

Yes — Govardhan Hill is 26 km from Mathura and the parikrama is deeply important in Krishna tradition. TTI can include it on Day 5 morning before the drive back to Delhi. Tell us at booking so we can plan the timing correctly.
