The Vayu Purana, the Garuda Purana, the Valmiki Ramayana - all of them say the same thing: Pind Daan performed at Vishnupad Temple in Gaya liberates ancestors across fourteen generations, on both the paternal and maternal sides. Lord Ram himself came here to perform the rites for his father King Dasharatha. Lord Vishnu's own footprint is enshrined in the basalt stone of this temple, and has been since before memory began.
This tour is built around that act of completion. Two full days in Gaya - at Vishnupad Temple, the Falgu River ghats, the Akshayavat tree where Mata Sita performed Pind Daan, Mangla Gauri Shakti Peetha, Pretshila Hill. Then the journey continues = Varanasi for the Ganga Aarti and Kashi Vishwanath, Prayagraj for the Triveni Sangam, and finally Ayodhya where Ram Mandir now stands where it always should have.

BEST - OCTOBER TO MARCH
Comfortable weather across all four cities. The most manageable time for the Gaya circuit and Varanasi ghat walks. Book early for December–January.
MOST AUSPICIOUS - PITRU PAKSHA, SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER
The 16-day lunar fortnight when the ancestral realm is believed closest. Gaya is very crowded but deeply powerful during this period. TTI can plan a Pitru Paksha-specific trip — book months in advance.
WORTH KNOWING - KARTIK MONTH VARANASI
Kartik is Varanasi's most sacred month — heavy crowds but extraordinary atmosphere. If you travel during Kartik, build extra time into the Varanasi days.
PLAN AHEAD - RAM NAVAMI, AYODHYA
Ram Navami after the new temple consecration draws enormous crowds. TTI will advise on darshan timing if you travel during this period.

Travel Itinerary
Arrive Gaya Airport → Transfer to hotel → Evening at Falgu River → Rest
Arrive at Gaya airport and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, if you arrive with enough light, walk to the Falgu River ghats - this is where the rituals begin tomorrow. The river appears dry at Gaya for most of the year, its water flowing just beneath the sandy bed. Stand at the ghat and let the place settle into you.
Rest well - the next two days are the heart of the entire journey.
TTI Insider: The Falgu appears dry — but that is exactly as described in the Ramayana. When Mata Sita performed Pind Daan here for King Dasharatha, she dug into the sand to find water. Your priest will do the same tomorrow. That continuity — the same gesture, the same sand, the same purpose — across thousands of years is something our clients often find more moving than any temple.
Snana Sankalp → Falgu River → Vishnupad Temple → Akshayavat → Mangla Gauri → Pretshila Hill
Begin at the Falgu River ghats for Snana Sankalp and Tarpan with your TTI-arranged priest [priest charges will be extra].
- Then Vishnupad Temple for Pind Daan at the sanctum of Vishnu's footprint.
- The Akshayavat - the ancient banyan where Sita offered Pinda - is nearby.
- Then Mangla Gauri Shakti Peetha and Pretshila Hill. The rituals have their own time. This day is unhurried by design.

Morning train departure → Varanasi arrival midday → Dashashwamedh Ghat at dusk
Board the morning train from Gaya to Varanasi, arriving early afternoon. Check in and rest. By evening you are at Dashashwamedh Ghat - seven priests, seven flames, the Ganga receiving everything.
After two days of intimate ancestral ritual at Gaya, this aarti carries a particular weight. Varanasi knows why you are here.
TTI Insider: After completing Pind Daan at Gaya, many families come to Varanasi specifically to take a ritual dip in the Ganga - the sacred sequence of Gaya then Kashi is mentioned in scripture as completing the ancestral rites fully. The morning boat ride on Day 4 is the right moment. TTI can arrange a priest at the ghat if you wish to do this formally.

Up before dawn for a boat ride past Varanasi's ghats as the city wakes. Then Kashi Vishwanath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
Afternoon at Sankat Mochan and Tulsi Manas Mandir. Evening aarti again at Dashashwamedh if you wish. Varanasi has been receiving pilgrims who come from Gaya for thousands of years. It knows what you have just done and it receives you accordingly.
TTI Insider: From the boat at sunrise, as you pass Manikarnika Ghat, you will see the cremation fires. Do not look away. Hindus believe dying in Varanasi brings moksha - the same liberation your ancestral rites at Gaya were seeking for your forebears. The families at Manikarnika are not mourning the way you might expect. Watch with reverence. This is the city completing what Gaya began.
Triveni Sangam boat ride → Tarpan at Sangam → Drive to Ayodhya
Drive to Prayagraj for a boat ride at Triveni Sangam where Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati meet. A Tarpan here after the Gaya rites is considered especially meritorious - priests at the ghat will guide you.
Then drive to Ayodhya, arriving by late afternoon. The city where Lord Ram was born, completed his life, and has now received his temple back.
TTI Insider: At Triveni Sangam you can see the exact line where the green Yamuna meets the grey-blue Ganga - two rivers running side by side before becoming one. Ask the boatman to bring you to that confluence point. Many families who have just completed Pind Daan find this moment - standing above three rivers merging - one of the most powerful of the entire yatra.
Hanuman Garhi → Ram Mandir darshan → Kanak Bhawan → Ram Ki Paidi → Saryu ghat
Begin at Hanuman Garhi - Ayodhya's guardian, visited before Ram Mandir by every devotee. Then darshan at Ram Mandir, built on Lord Ram's birthplace.
Visit Kanak Bhawan where Ram and Sita are enshrined in gold, and close at Ram Ki Paidi ghat on the Saryu. The journey has moved from the ancestors in Gaya to the god who loves his people in Ayodhya.
TTI Insider: Ram Mandir queues change significantly by day and season. TTI briefs you the evening before on timing and entry. Arriving before 8am consistently gives the calmest darshan. One more thing — Guptar Ghat on the Saryu, where Lord Ram is said to have taken his final divine journey, is a short drive from the main temple area and worth visiting if your afternoon is free.

The Ekodrishti Shradh — covering Falgu River ghats, Vishnupad Temple and Akshayavat — takes one full day. TTI keeps Day 2 entirely dedicated to this so there is no time pressure at all. If your family wants to perform the extended circuit across more of Gaya's 54 sacred vedis, we can extend the Gaya stay to three nights.
Your priest provides all puja samagri — rice, sesame, barley, flowers and other ritual materials — included in the priest's charges. Wear white or light-coloured traditional clothing for the Gaya rituals. Most importantly — bring the names and gotras of the ancestors for whom you are performing the rites. TTI sends a detailed pre-departure briefing once you confirm your booking.
Yes — many families perform Pind Daan at Gaya and Tarpan at Triveni Sangam as part of the same yatra. Prayagraj is one of the most sacred sites for ancestral rites, especially at the Sangam. TTI arranges the priest at Prayagraj as well. Let us know at booking.
Pind Daan can be performed at Gaya throughout the year — there is no seasonal restriction. Pitru Paksha (September–October) is the most spiritually auspicious period but also the most crowded. October to March is comfortable for travel. TTI will advise on the most practical timing for your family.
