Travel Itinerary
Board the Delhi Metro at 9:00 AM to Chandni Chowk — the heart of Old Delhi's India food tour scene. Walk to Khari Baoli, Asia's largest spice market, where lanes overflow with cardamom, saffron and pepper. Taste hot jalebis, spiced chaat and kulfi from stalls serving recipes for generations. Late evening, board your overnight train to Jodhpur for an authentic Indian rail journey.
Tip: Keep a handkerchief ready for the spice market—the airborne chili dust in Khari Baoli is powerful but the photos are worth it!
Arrive Jodhpur, transfer to hotel and freshen up. Enter Mehrangarh Fort through the quieter Chand Pole gate — no tourist buses reach this side, making for a peaceful arrival. Take the lift to the top where the entire Blue City spreads below and the outline of Umaid Bhawan Palace appears on the horizon. The fort's museum holds 500 years of royal collections — arms, palanquins, costumes — each section built by a different Maharaja.
Visit the serene Jaswant Thada marble memorial nearby. Evening — hands-on Rajasthani cooking class mastering dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi and Rajasthani curry, followed by dinner.
Start at 7-8am — the Blue City is most magical in early light. Pedal through lanes too narrow for cars, past a craftsman hand-binding traditional books, a sweet-maker preparing milk sweets and cart vendors selling hot samosas. Afternoon drive to Pushkar (4 hours) — visit Brahma Temple, sacred Pushkar Lake and sample local street food around the ghats. Overnight Pushkar.
Tip: The "Blue City" isn't just paint—it's a centuries-old Brahmin tradition to keep houses cool in the desert heat.
Morning drive to the Pink City of Jaipur. Check in and rest. Evening — Rajasthani cooking class with fresh local ingredients. Learn to prepare Laal Maas (fiery red meat curry), chicken kachri, safed aloo and eggplant masala cooked in tangy tomato sauce with Indian spices — dishes shaped by the kitchens of Jaipur's Maharajas. Dinner follows with what you have cooked.
Wake early for aarti at the 18th-century Govind Devji Temple — worshipped by Jaipur's royal family. Your rickshaw tour starts at Albert Hall Museum, entering through the New Gate, winding along Chaura Rasta passing Hawa Mahal, Tripolia Gate, Jantar Mantar and City Palace — approximately 4 hours. (Not available April–September.) Evening street food walk — taste Chole Bhatura, Pani Puri, Jalebi and Rajasthani specialties.
Tip: At Govind Devji, stand to the far left during Aarti for the best view of the royal family’s private altar.
Drive to Agra with two stops en route. First — Abhaneri Stepwell, a geometric masterpiece of 3,500 steps dating back to the 9th century. Then Fatehpur Sikri — the magnificent abandoned Mughal capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Arrive Agra and check in. Evening — head to Deviram Sweets for bedai (spiced stuffed puris), crispy jalebi and thick creamy lassi — a Agra breakfast institution that locals have trusted for generations. Then explore Sadar Bazaar Food Lane — momos, golgappas, kulfi and chow mein in a festive open-air setting.
Arrive at the Taj Mahal before 6am — the white marble turns soft pink in the first light before the crowds arrive. Shah Jahan's eternal tribute to Mumtaz Mahal at its most breathtaking and most peaceful. Later visit the mighty Agra Fort — a 16th-century Mughal masterpiece.
Transfer to New Delhi for your onward flight. Your Rajasthan Food Adventure concludes. Safe travels!
