Dwarka: the city Lord Krishna built in the sea. The Dwarkadhish Temple here is one of the four sacred dhams of India. Bet Dwarka — a small island a short ferry ride from the coast — is where Krishna actually lived, distinct from the main temple city. Pilgrims who go to Dwarka without going to Bet Dwarka have completed only half the circuit.
Then south along the Gujarat coast to Somnath — the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas, destroyed and rebuilt seventeen times, and still standing. The evening aarti at Somnath with the Arabian Sea behind the temple is one of the most powerful moments in Hindu pilgrimage anywhere in India.

Lord Krishna's birthday draws massive crowds to Dwarkadhish Temple. Spiritually extraordinary — book several months in advance if you want to be here during Janmashtami.
WORTH KNOWING - MAHA SHIVRATRI
The largest annual celebration at Somnath Jyotirlinga. If your dates align, TTI can plan accordingly — but expect large gatherings and book well in advance.
AVOID - JUNE TO SEPTEMBER
The Gujarat coast is heavily affected by monsoon. The Arabian Sea becomes rough, Bet Dwarka ferry services are suspended, and coastal drives are difficult. October to March strongly preferred.

Arrive at Rajkot by flight or train and drive to Dwarka - one of the four sacred Char Dhams of India. Visit Dwarkadhish Temple, take a dip at Gomti Ghat and visit Rukmini Devi Temple. This is the city Lord Krishna built in the sea, and the Dwarkadhish Temple stands where his palace once stood. Overnight in Dwarka.

Catching this procession, when the deity moves through the temple corridors with music and flowers, is something most visitors miss entirely.
Ferry to Bet Dwarka → Sudama Temple Porbandar → Nageshwar Jyotirlinga → Somnath Evening aarti
Morning ferry to Bet Dwarka island - where Krishna actually lived, separate from the royal temple city. Darshan at the Bet Dwarkadhish Temple. Then drive south to Porbandar for Sudama Temple - the birthplace of Krishna's childhood friend, the only temple in India dedicated to him. You have seen where Krishna ruled; now you stand where his most beloved friend was born.
Continue to Somnath - arriving in time for the evening aarti at the Arabian Sea shore.
TTI Insider: At Sudama Temple, the story most devotees know is the flattened rice - Sudama brought Krishna a handful of poha as his only gift, and Krishna received him like a king. What most people do not know is that when Sudama returned home, he did not ask Krishna for anything. Krishna gave anyway. That is the theology of this temple - and it lands differently when you are standing in the town where Sudama was born.

Morning at Somnath - Bhalka Tirth, where Lord Krishna received the fatal arrow and departed the mortal world, is a short distance from the main temple. Visit Triveni Sangam where three rivers meet the sea.
Then drive to Diu - a quiet coastal town about 90 km from Somnath - for an afternoon and evening of rest by the sea. The pilgrimage is complete. Tonight is simply for stillness.

A free final morning in Diu - a quiet coastal town with Portuguese-era churches and clean beaches that offer a complete contrast to the intensity of the pilgrimage days. Depart by flight from Diu airport or by road to Rajkot or Ahmedabad for your onward journey. TTI assists with all arrangements.
TTI Insider: Diu airport has direct flights to Mumbai. If you are flying back to Mumbai or onward, check flight availability when booking — Diu is a small airport but well-connected for this route. If you prefer road, Rajkot is about 3 hours from Diu and has better flight and train options for most destinations.

The two are spiritually distinct — visiting only one is an incomplete pilgrimage by traditional standards. The ferry crossing is short and the island has its own temple, ghats and sacred atmosphere. Yes — Somnath is traditionally listed first among the twelve Jyotirlingas in scripture. It is also the one with the most eventful history — destroyed by foreign invaders multiple times and rebuilt each time, most recently after Indian independence. The present temple was consecrated in 1951 by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Standing here knowing that history makes the darshan carry extra weight.
Diu is a leisure and rest halt — not a pilgrimage stop. After three days of temple visits and long drives, one quiet day by the sea before departure is something our clients consistently appreciate.
