Day 3: Varanasi · Departure

  • Pilgrims with limited time who want Varanasi alone, done properly - not rushed into a single day on a longer circuit.
  • Devotees who have already covered Ayodhya and Prayagraj on a previous trip and now want to give Kashi the dedicated time it deserves.
  • Business or family travellers extending a trip with a short, meaningful pilgrimage.
  • Anyone for whom Varanasi has always been the destination, not a stop along the way.

Sattvic Meals: For devotees observing sattvic vegetarian food — onion-free, garlic-free — throughout the pilgrimage, TTI arranges meals accordingly. Please mention this at booking.

BEST - OCTOBER TO MARCH

Cool, comfortable weather for ghat walks and the sunrise boat ride. December–January are peak pilgrimage months — book early.

WORTH KNOWING - KARTIK MONTH

Kartik is the most auspicious month in Varanasi and very crowded. Spiritually powerful — but book well in advance and expect large gatherings at the ghats.

WORTH KNOWING - DEV DEEPAWALI

Fifteen days after Diwali, all the ghats of Varanasi are lit with lakhs of lamps for Dev Deepawali. One of the most beautiful sights in India — book months ahead if this is your priority.

AVOID - JUNE TO AUGUST

Varanasi summer is intense, and monsoon brings a rising Ganga that can affect lower ghat access. October to March is strongly preferred for comfortable temple and ghat visits.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat - seven flames, seven priests, the river at dusk
  • Sunrise boat ride past Varanasi's ancient ghats - Assi, Kedar, Manikarnika, Dashashwamedh
  • Kashi Vishwanath Temple - one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the spiritual centre of the city
  • Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple - quiet, intimate, associated with Tulsidas
  • Tulsi Manas Mandir - the temple where the Ramcharitmanas was composed
  • Assi Ghat at dawn - the city's quieter southern ghat, with its own small morning aarti

Travel Itinerary

Arrival and check-in · Dashashwamedh Ghat at dusk

Arrive in Varanasi and check in. By evening, make your way to Dashashwamedh Ghat for the Ganga Aarti — seven priests, seven flames, bells, conch shells, smoke, the river holding it all. This is what people travel thousands of kilometres for, and it is exactly what you imagined, and more.

TTI Insider: Reach the ghat 40 minutes before the aarti. Walk the full length of it first — the last 20 minutes before the ceremony begins, when the lamps are being lit and the priests are taking their positions, has a quality of anticipation that is almost as powerful as the aarti itself.

Sunrise boat ride → Kashi Vishwanath → Sankat Mochan → Tulsi Manas

Up before dawn for a boat ride past the main ghats as Varanasi slowly wakes.
Then Kashi Vishwanath - one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.

Afternoon at Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and Tulsi Manas Mandir.
Evening aarti again if you wish. Varanasi is not a city you see — it is a city you absorb. Give it the full day it deserves.

TTI Insider: As your boat passes Manikarnika Ghat you will see the cremation fires. Do not look away. Hindus believe dying in Varanasi brings moksha - the families there are completing the most sacred act of love. Witness it with the respect it deserves. Many clients say this is the moment that stays with them longest.

Assi Ghat morning walk → onward journey by train or flight

A final quiet morning. Walk to Assi Ghat at dawn — the southernmost ghat, quieter than Dashashwamedh, with its own small aarti and a different quality of stillness. Then depart by train or flight to your onward destination. TTI assists with arrangements. Three days. The city stays with you far longer.

TTI Insider: Assi Ghat's morning aarti is far less crowded than the famous evening ceremony, and for many of our clients, the more moving of the two. If your departure is afternoon, wake early and go there first. It is the right way to say goodbye to Varanasi.

You came for three days.
Kashi does not measure itself in days.

The aarti, the river at dawn, the Jyotirlinga at its centre - this city has been the same for four thousand years, and for three days, it was yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, if the days are used well — which is exactly how this tour is structured. Day 2 is a full day with no other travel, entirely dedicated to the boat ride, Kashi Vishwanath and the surrounding temples. Combined with the evening aarti on Day 1 and the Assi Ghat morning on Day 3, you experience the city at three different times of day — dusk, dawn and a final quiet morning. That range matters more than the number of days.

Yes — TTI's 5-day Varanasi-Prayagraj-Ayodhya tour follows naturally from this itinerary. If after arriving you decide you want to continue to Prayagraj and Ayodhya, TTI can extend your trip. Let us know as early as possible so we can adjust hotel and car bookings.

Modest clothing — salwar kameez, kurta-pyjama, saree or dhoti. Shoulders and legs covered. Remove footwear before entering any temple. Kashi Vishwanath does not permit leather items inside. TTI will brief you in detail before each major temple.

Yes — the boats used for the sunrise ride are stable wooden rowboats with experienced boatmen, and the Ganga at the ghats is calm, not fast-flowing. Boarding is from steps at the ghat with assistance available. TTI will choose a boat and timing comfortable for your group's needs.

Varanasi does not do ordinary — and neither does Hotel Four Elements. Two minutes from Banaras Railway Station, in the city where the Ganges has been receiving pilgrims for three thousand years — boutique interiors, THE AQUA restaurant and hospitality that feels genuinely rooted in this place rather than performed for it.
